The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
