Approximately fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found multiple other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior political figure said the vandalism made him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
